Primeiros dias - a rotina! Fomos incumbidos de preparar alguma coisa especial pra chegada dos estudantes noruegueses, e decidimos cantar pra eles: We are happy to see you today...( estamos felizes por ver vocês hoje!), danças diversas (os brasileiros, eu inclusive dançamos o funk do quadrado, fala sérioooooo!), saudamos eles em nossas línguas maternas.
Hald Internasjonale Senter: my school and home here in Norway, during the six first weeks!
Well, what can I say about Hald? A place where people from fourteen different countries get together is certainly a unique place in the face of the Earth… A very beautiful place, where you find everything you need… I was blessed to live during six weeks in this place that I like to call “the closest place to heaven I have ever found!”
First days: the routine
Hald despite of being our home here is also our school. This means classes everyday between 9 and 16…All the students have tasks to do…some are responsible for cleaning the halls and the common areas, while others helps in the kitchen…I was “blessed” with the kitchen duty…
During the three first days, we were only the international students, coming from 13 different countries: Brazil, France, Laos, Thailand, Uganda, Kenya, Madagascar, Bolivia, Peru, Nepal, Cameroon, Tanzania and Rwanda.
We had many practical instructions and information about the classes and the cleaning here in Norway and of course a lot, a lot of fun!!!! We were given the task to prepare something to receive the Norwegians students, and we decided to sing for then: We are happy to see you today (believe me we really meant that!!!), typical dances ( the Brazilians, including me danced the “square” dance afff!), we said welcome to then in our own languages…After this we sang a Norwegian song for kids that we learned with then…
Norwegian classes for all of us!!!!
Time passed by and finally was time for the special weekend, the Blue Trip (Blåtur): it’s a trip that you are not supposed to know where you are going nor what waits for you there… it was a wonderful camp!!! In the bus, they got all our mobiles and watches…one hour of walk to the bus stop till the place where the camp was…Getting there we were told that the use of the showers were forbidden…imagine the face of the Brazilians hearing that… In the first day, we had a fire and a wonderful moment to share about ourselves, telling funny stories…The next day, some games and climb a mountain…We lost the way and we had to walk back to find the right track…we walked a lot, and who knows me know that I’m not the climbing a mountain person…but the view up there was totally worthy! (ok…I have to admit that I was scared of the height!). In the evening, when we came back, we were responsible to prepare, in groups, songs, games, entertainment…we had a lot of good stuff and we laugh a lot!
On Sunday, more games and a wonderful time to share about ourselves, in groups…then, way back to school… I cannot mention among the activities that we had at school, the service prepared by the students in Mandal Church… it was really good! I was part of the school choir (I know, I’m not a good singer, but that’s the way I found to participate!) We sang the Aaron blessing in Norwegian…really beautiful!
At Hald, together with the classes and all books to read, the coexistence is intense…we see other everyday, and this makes the friendship and the affection grows…many good moments were lived there, bonfires at the beach, talks in the living room, dances, birthday parties, but among them, specially fun, I have to talk about the carnival party we had…songs, talk, games, among then the “chair dance” and to end the night: The Lion King! The last week came and with it, the secret friend! During the last week, we should be specially nice with this person, in the most creative way as possible…we ended revealing the secret friend in the farewell party, with a special gift...ok, now I have to stop here and mention something: for a Brazilian revealing a secret friend means being in a circle, somebody starts talking about something really peculiar about this person, until somebody guesses who is the secret friend…this way, everybody knows who has who as secret friends…but, her, you just come to this person and say: Hi, I’m your secret friend! Ah, the farewell party…is it possible that six weeks just pass by us so fast?? I promised myself that I would not cry, somebody believes that I was able to keep it? In the farewell party we also has tasks, and I was in the group serving cakes, ice cream and coffee…hmmm delicious! For the farewell party the international students again sang to the Norwegians, this time: we’re the world…we also gave then a card with a verse from the Bible and a hug! When practicing, we had the good idea to surprise then, waking then up (at 4 o’clock in the morning) and showing then that we can sing and say good morning in Norwegian…it was funny!!! To end the farewell party, again the school choir sang the Aaron blessing in Norwegian…touching...
